THE ROMAN EMPIRE 20 EMPEROR COLLECTION Bronze Lepton ---> A SUPERB COLLECTION OF 20 GENUINE ROMAN BRONZE COINS, EACH COIN BEARS THE PORTRAIT OF A DIFFERENT EMPEROR FROM THE 3RD AND 4TH CENTURIES A.D. EACH 1600+ YEAR-OLD BRONZE COIN IS PROTECTED IN AN ARCHIVAL CAPSULE AND BEAUTIFULLY DISPLAYED IN A DELUXE, CUSTOM MADE HARDWOOD CASE. THE CASE FEATURES A RICH, FOREST-GREEN VELOUR INTERIOR AND A PLAQUE INSCRIBED WITH A LIST OF THE 20 EMPERORS. THE DELUXE CASE AND A CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY COMES PACKAGED IN AN ATTRACTIVE, BLACK, EMBOSSED GIFT BOX. The case is 12.5" by 6" by 2".These genuine ancient Roman bronze coins from the third and fourth Centuries A.D. offer a glimpse of the brutal roots of modern western civilization evident in the Roman Empire. The obverse side of each coin shows the portrait of the emperor at the time the coins were minted. The reverse shows pictures and phrases depicting current concerns, history and mythology. Military themes, however, dominate the reverse of most of these coins. By the middle of the 3rd century A.D. the sheer size of the Empire's borders, stretching from Britain to Persia required constant military defense against dozens of neighboring Barbarian tribes. The military played a dominant role in Roman politics and was often used to resolve political rivalries. These coins were minted in vast quantities for everyday transactions and often circulated for long periods of time. Coins were made by hand by inserting a metal blank between two dies and striking the upper die with a heavy hammer. The coins are not perfectly round. Historians know only very little about the names of coinage of this period due to the chaos of the era. It is known that bronze coins eventually replaced silver coins as the most commonly used money after a long, gradual reduction of the silver content of the coins. The size, weight and the names of coins also changed over time. Many emperors instituted monetary reforms in an effort to stem the confusion, but typically contributed to the problems. There were at least 15 different denominations minted since the early days of the Roman Republic. The size, weight and the names of coins also changed over time. We hope you will enjoy this collection as much we enjoyed putting it together.
