Nile Ancient Coins An Æ AS of Agrippa , 63-12 BC. Struck under Caligula 38-41 A.D. This coin seems fairly ordinary (and it would be) if not for the PR countermark on the obverse which is struck upside down as most were. The PR stands for "Populi Romani [People of Rome] and was struck in 69 A.D. This was done during the revolt of Vindex mostly as a propoganda symbol. In times of desperation the people always go to he who gives answers and this may have been a good reason. Kind of a 'Power to the People of Rome' suggestion. It's a countermark that is also found on coins of Nero since they were more contemporary, but they do show up on Asses of Agrippa, must have been a popular coin since it had strong staying power as far as circulation. Always a neat and very historically significant piece. Many nice, rare and Extremely Fine coins will be running on eBay. Obverse: M AGRIPPA L F COS III , Bust head Left . PR Countermarked over neck of Agrippa (upside down). Reverse: S - C , Neptune standing left holding dolphin and trident Weight: 9.5 gms., 28mm. Coin is in F condition. Please email with any questions. Coin is absolutely guaranteed authentic for life. Full refund if ever found to be a fake, guaranteed. Bid with confidence, and don't miss this great opportunity to own this magnificent Historical piece! See "shipping information" for mailing details. Best of luck to you.
