Description

Up for sale is this Civil War Token, Fuld lists it as an F165CY-61A. It is an R-6 meaning TWENTY to SEVENTY-FIVE known. It was made H.K Lamphear the Cincinnati Ohio die sinker. The store card reads, "H.K. Lamphear Manuf'r Of Metallic Cards Cinti, Ohio." The revers is Die number 1222 "Army & Navy," with the Date "1863," and the Union shield. It is a warm chocolate brown and the reverse is rotated about 20 degrees. These were made for Lamphear's traveling salesman as samples. One can picture in our mind's eye the men riding on trains to the cities and towns in the midwest selling these tokens. They would have had carpet bags and leather sample cases. I would grade it an XF example, all grading is subjective so please review the scans. It is a very nice token a bit softly struck as were the case for many of his "samples." Good Luck and have fun bidding, Scotty! (If you are the winning bidder, PLEASE wait for my invoice.) Tartan Collectibles has recently purchased a sizable set of Civil War Tokens. It is a wonderful assortment from an old time collection. “The Chesapeake Collection” will be auctioned off ONLY on E-BAY over the next several months. They are very choice specimens. These CWTs’ have been off the market for years. You will want to bookmark my auctions. The collection is now being offered ONLY on E-Bay. Thank you and Good Luck, Scotty!
