As you look at the band on the outer edge of the coin, you can clearly see that band is very narrow along the top edge of the coin, and it is much wider along the bottom edge of the coin. Our coin, having the OFF-CENTERED STRIKE , was found in a fresh bank roll and handled with only cotton gloves, then placed in protective coin holder to preserve it and protect it from damage. The obverse or front side of this coin features a portrait of John Adams, the second President of the United States of America. The wording on this side of the coin includes Adams' name, the phrase “2nd Presidentâ€, and the years which Adams served in office, 1797 - 1801. Adams' predecessor was George Washington of Virginia. Adams was succeeded by Thomas Jefferson, also of Virginia, who will be the third presidential coin to be minted in this series, and one of four to be minted this year. The reverse or rear side of the 2007 Adams Presidential Dollar coin features a striking rendition of the Statue of Liberty on the right, along with the denomination of “$1†placed toward the left hand side. The bold lettered words “United States of America†are struck along the outer rim. The coin is made of the same size, color and metal composition as the Sacagawea Dollar coin currently being minted. This coin features larger, more dramatic artwork, as well as edge-incused inscriptions of the year of minting (or issuance), “E Pluribus Unum,†“In God We Trust,†and the mint mark. The coins in this series are the first American coins produced since 1933 to have lettering along the edge of the coin.
