A Collectible Certificate from SOUTHERN BELL TELEPHONE & TELEGRAPH COMPANY This is a $1000.00 Registered Bond !!! First Issued in 1939. Southern Bell has been around for a long time. Way back in the 1880s it was already serving much of Dixie! Kinda hard to believe, isn't it?? But the Bell Telephone Company actually started in 1877. This particular Certificate was a Forty-Year Bond due in 1979 - purchased at a Discount in 1977. So the Old-Timey Phone you see was in use back in the Forties. Talk about Retro!!! But it still looks a little familiar, which means that they certainly were designed for a lot of wear and tear. Perhaps even more peculiar is the fact that the Vignette portrays an Old-Time TV Set! Yep, they had them back then too. The Television Screen has been replaced by an Image of the Phone, but you can still see the Dials at the Bottom. Flanking it are two Classical Deities: On the Left sits Athena - God of Technology - and on the Right is Mercury - God of Communication. Notice who's got his hands on the dials!!! Probably trying to find a Football Game while his wife isn't looking. And there are Six More Smaller Vignettes which are Utterly Fascinating - showing various uses of the Telephone. You really need to see a much-enlarged version to fully appreciate it!
