The cost of just 5 tokens at the MTA museum is 25 dollars plus S&H you can get 6 cheaper right here!!!!! I have in my possesion every token ever minted by the NYC subway transit system for both subway and bus fares. Currently I have an inventory of over 300 tokens.(see the photos as of 11/1/08.) Most people purchase the 6 pack which is considered a complete set as I will describe. There are special 'low mintage tokens that are very rare and are naturally more value thus more money to purchase. As of Nov. 1st 2008 I will open the bidding at .99 with a reserve amount of $14.00. 1. Small "Y" token 1953-1966 (48 million minted) only have one which the Y is not cut out because it was taken out of circulation after a month in service becaue the public had a hard time distinguishing between a dime and the token. That one will cost the purchaser 50 dollars.... 2 In 1970 a new big round token with a :Y: was cut out as fare increased from 20 cents to 30 then 35 than 50. 3.Dimond Jubilee token 1979 1980 Issued to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the subway. Mintage only 5.8 4.Solid Brass token from 1980 thru 1985 it was 60 cents than 75 cents to 90- cents. Mintage is 60 million 5.1/1/86 Bullseye Token which went from 1.00 to 1.25 Thee are 3 variations but only one which is very valuable and that is the 'Archer Avenue Extention wirth a mintqage of 100.000. of the 90 million other bullseye. I purchased these many years ago fro 35 to 50 dollars each. 6. The final token Five Boroughs" Pentagram Token" 11/13/95 for 1.50. This was the final token in the NYC system that went out of existance April 13 2003. Then it was used on the NYC Tramway for some time. This is a wonderful history lesson on the city economic crisis at different times that the city faced. I remember fondly lookling at these tokens that moved me all over this wonderful city and will never forget as I've had jewlery i.e. cuff-links made from the tokens. I will sell any quantity or sort that you would like to mix and match to purchase..
