Description

St. Christopher Elongated 1962-D Cent This “smashed penny” is an elongated 1962-D US Lincoln Cent Good Luck pocket piece featuring St. Christopher. The reverse is clearly a genuine Lincoln cent with the date easy to read, a terrific bright and shiny solid copper penny elongate in excellent condition. My auction list is full of St. Christopher medals and all with free shipping! Years ago, I wrote an article for a hobby publication about collecting St. Christopher medals. I am now selling those medals that I had collected and used in the article. Some are rare and very old, as ancient as 250 years old, and some are common and modern. Please check my auction list for all of these interesting medals and for upcoming auctions featuring Christian cross theme jewelry and other lots of sterling silver jewelry. Thirty years ago, my family sponsored a Vietnamese refugee family. Even though they were Buddhists, they wore St. Christopher medals around their necks for “good luck.” That sparked my interest in this religious medal that spans religions. Here are a few excerpts from the article I wrote that featured most of these medals. “The story of St. Christopher, or St. Kitts as he called in some places, is known all over the world… Most people who wear his medal have religious motivations but for others, especially non-Christians, a “Christopher” is one of the best good luck pocket pieces of all….. As the patron saint of travelers, his medal is popular with pilots, sea captains, automobile and bus drivers and even bicyclists…. Up until the 1970s, St. Christopher medals were also a symbol of romance for many American parochial elementary school students, possibly because of their ready availability and humble cost. When a boy wanted to ask a girl to “go steady,” it was customary to send his best friend over to her during recess and offer a St. Christopher medal on a chain…. But no group is more consistent in their wearing of this medal than surfers, both professional and amateur. Even though surfers travel relatively short distances on the waves, you will find very few who go into the sea without a Christopher medal around their necks, especially the blue-enameled type. They are considered essential equipment among Californian and Hawaiian surfers, just as important as the surfboard. Saint Chris is so popular, he even survived a “de-sainting” by the Catholic Church with his fan base intact. Of course, if you know the legend behind the saint, you know that he is one tough guy who could probably survive almost anything…. Since Christopher is said to have transported the child Jesus on his shoulders, he came to be known as the patron saint of transportation and was given the official “Feast Day” of July 25th. Christians believed that by asking Saint Christopher to intercede for them to God, they could move more safely by boat, horse, caravan, and later, automobile, airplane, tank and space shuttle. Sometimes the machine carries the medal instead of the traveler. In many countries to this day, if it moves people or equipment, there’s a good chance it has a magnetic Christopher medal on the dashboard, or one clipped to the visor…..” SHIPPING COST: Shipping is free in the USA and to Canada. Email me before bidding if you want this shipped anywhere else so I can tell you if it is possible and how much it will cost. Buyer must pay insurance, if desired. CUSTOMER SATISFACTION: Authenticity is always guaranteed. Like most auctioneers, I have an "all sales final" no-refunds policy. However, I work hard to assure customer satisfaction. I am not a coin dealer but I have a 99.9% positive feedback rating, one of the best in the Coins area for someone with a high feedback number, so please check out my feedback and bid with confidence. If you have a question or concern, please email before bidding or before leaving feedback. SHIPPING AND PAYMENT POLICY: My address, if you need it, will be in the automatic Pay Pal invoice. US and Canada only. Insurance is recommended but is also the buyer's option (see below). Insurance in the US is at cost and optional (scale below). Insurance to Canada is sometimes but not always available at similar rates. Buyer assumes all risk if insurance is not available or purchased. PAYMENT OPTIONS: Accepting money order, cashier's check or personal check (must wait ten days for it to clear), plus PAY-PAL. TAX POLICY: Oklahoma residents MUST add 8.5% sales tax. INSURANCE: Buyer assumes all risk if insurance is not purchased. It is rare for the Post Office to lose a package completely (delayed arrivals are more common than in the past), but it does happen. I can't do anything about loss or damage if USPS insurance is not purchased. Add your choice of the following amounts to the shipping cost, if desired, and note in your payment that you purchased insurance. Merchandise Insurance Coverage: $0.01 to $50 - $1.65 50.01 to 100 2.05 100.01 to 200 2.45 200.01 to 300 4.60 300.01 to 400 5.50 400.01 to 500 6.40 500.01 to 600 7.30 600.01 to 5,000 $7.30 plus $0.90 for each $100 or fraction over $600 in declared value (maximum liability is $5,000).
